LOCAL 862 MEETING NOTES 

 

OVERVIEW OF AUGUST MEETING:

·                     Guest speaker - Mark Remily addressed the body for approximately. 5 mins. about why he is running for the South Dakota House of Representives (District #3). Mark also returned after the meeting to talk with our members one on one to here there thoughts and concerns.

Committee Report

·                     Grievance 08-005 (implementation of Non-continous hours).  Waiting for reply and dates from arbitrator.

·                     Grievance 08-006 (indivual bargaining). Waiting for reply and dates from arbitrator.

·                     Grievance 08-008 (Co. not reconizing IPS position). Panel was struck and arbitrator was selected.  Waiting for reply and dates from arbitrator.

·                     Greivance 08-011 (Non-bargaining performing bargaining unit work). Motion made and seconded to send for panel. voice vote and motion carried.

·                     Greivance 08-012 (Denial of Union representation over insurance issues). Motion made and seconded to send for panel. voice vote and motion carried.

·                     Grievance 08-013 (Co. letter over 2/3 benefits premium). Motion made and seconded to send for panel. voice vote and motion carried.

Pension issues

·                     The blackout period for M&I has been lifted and your funds are viewable on the M&I web site.

·                     Members who withdrew money from Wells Fargo in the last three years might be getting letters explaining tax implications and a 1099R. Members who get these letters should contact their Stewards and Committee members.

Dakota Plains Surgical Center

·                     Dakota Plains Surgical Center has been contacted by First Choice of the Midwest and the process to bring them in our Network has begun. This is expected to be completed around the first week of September

District # 5 Report

·                     Local 2357 (Watertown) will be going to contract negoitations in January

·                     Grand Lodge convention in September

New business

·                     Motion was made and seconded to send Shannon Stucker to leadership classes. voice vote and motion carried.

MNPL & Door prizes

·                     MNPL winner was Ted Hartung

Door prizes were won by Joe Giovannettone and Jan Stiegelmeier

Next meeting will be Sept.27th at 10:00 AM.

 

Overviw of December Meeting

The meeting was called to order on December 20, 2008 at 10:00am.

Committee Report:

Grievances:

·         08-005(Non continuous hours.)

       Arbitration hearing was held Dec. 1, 2008.  Briefs will be filed and waiting ruling.

·         08-006(Indivual Bargaining)

Company gave union letter to resolve, Union will reply. Motion was also made to continue on         with Grievance. (Voice vote and motion carried)                                                                                                                                                    

·         08-013(2/3rd benefit contribution for Workers Comp.)

       Arbitration hearing date is set for 3-23-09.

·         08-015(Company performing bargaining unit work)

       Arbitrator has been selected.

·         08-016(Shane B. absence applied for late school start)

       Company would not change position. Committee has closed this grievance with no precedence.

·         08-017(Company performing bargaining unit work)

       Motion was made to send for a panel of Arbitrators. (Voice vote and motion carried.)

 

Wells Fargo issues:

            DBR Dennis Walworth has a letter ready to send to RBC and Wells Fargo. The letter was read to the membership. (For a copy of this letter please contact your steward)

 

Tool room:

            The Company will either post a position in mid Jan. or cancel Richard Jensen’s position as RPS in Assy. and place him back in the tool room.

 

Insurance:

·         IPS Shannon Stucker has requested that the Company give us in writing the procedure that the Company uses for Worker Compensation Claims. (Waiting for the Company to respond)

·         There was a Company notice that was posted on the bulletin board and also handed out with your pay vouchers that explained the benefit changes for 2009. The Committee has taken issue over the change in dependent coverage for dependents that have an employer that offers medical insurance.

·         STD. We have had some issues with members filling out their STD forms. In box no. 4 of the form it asks was disability due to an accident? If your disability is not due to an illness check yes in box no. 4. If you do not, you will not be paid form day one of your injury. For illness you will not be paid until the eighth consecutive day away form work.

·         The company has stated that Allied will no longer send EOB’s for coverage that is paid at 100%.

 

VTO:

·         VTO will continue through the first week of Jan.

·         ½ day VTO is not being approved.

·         (Motion)The membership agrees to allow for VTO to help the Company from having to layoff people. The membership will also not agree to VTO if the Company does have a layoff.(voice vote and motion carried)

 

Safety:

·         The Committee was informed of a safety issue in Heat Treat. The Committee informed the Company of this issue. The Company states that they will look into the problem.

 

Holidays:

·         The Company has not approved the holiday change that all three shifts requested.

·         The Company states that they may need to work on Sat. the 27th of Dec.

 

Misc:

·         The Committee was informed of the Company having one person operation the fork truck and their machine on Sat. overtime. (The committee believes this to be a violation)

·         There was a RBC notice going around the shop floor about procedures for plant closings that had the membership concerned. The Committee asked the Company about this notice and the Company stated that it is a notice that was sent out corporate wide to address RBC companies that close over the Christmas holidays.

·         The Committee received the new job description for the Multi Plex machine that should be arriving in Jan.

·         The Company states that the second FMS machine will be her around mid March.
